On February 18th-21st over President’s Day Weekend, Troop 325 took it’s annual trip up into the Methow Valley for 4 days of skiing and high adventure.  Kyle Wilkenson lead the trip that headed out on Friday evening and hit the trail into the hut system starting at about 10:00 p.m.  It was a full moon and the group was able to ski into Gardner Hut without the use of any lights.  We were casting shadows the moon was so bright on the snow.  Despite the late evening, there was lots of skiing to be had the next day followed by a cross country biathlon with paint ball guns target shooting.  Sunday took the group out for a 15 mile skiing adventure to Helfer Hut where they refueled for the ski home.  Excellent weather once again was the order of the weekend along with excellent skiing conditions.  We couldn’t have asked for better accommodations and conditions for this great adventure.  We’ll look forward to getting some of our newer cross country skiers in the Troop up this next year.

On February 13th, it was time for Troop 325 to give a little something back to our Sponsor Manito United Methodist Church.  It’s an event called Scout Sunday and the Troop assists in the church service with the parishioners.  Greeting, ushering, reading and then helping to serve refreshments after service are all part of saying “Thank You” for all that the church has provided out Troop.  The boys each make cookies for the refreshments and mingle with the parishioners showing them the camping displays that have been set up.  We are truly thankful for all that the parish does for our Troop.

On February 12th, Troop 325 ventured to 4th of July Pass for the last cross country ski gear up before the Methow trip.  It was Blaine Gustafson’s first time leading a trip and it proved to be a great challenge due to less than perfect snow conditions.  The weather was once again warm and sunny and that turned out to be the problem.  Half way to our destination we simply ran out of snow to ski on.  In true Troop 325 fashion, the group made the best of it and got a little hiking in to go along with the skiing.  The boys also practiced their cross country skiing skills in relay races on what snow was there and had a blast.

On February 5th, Troop 325 was back on Mt. Spokane honing their skills for the upcoming cross country ski trip into the Methow.  With all the new learners, it was yet another opportunity to hone the skills needed for the big trip.  It was also a time for dialing in whether the 4 day trip was within the skill level of those new to cross country skiing.  The beautiful sunny weather continued to grace the outing and the snow conditions were once again fantastic.  This trip took the Scouts to the top of mountain to the ranger lookout.
